“All in all, it was one of the best CVAC games we’ve played in all year,” Hornets coach Jamie Reidy said. “It was a quality high school hockey game full of energy. Our goal was to come out and play three periods of hockey, and I think we managed that. I’m happy with the effort and both goalies played well.”
Despite the loss, Plattsburgh High held the advantage in shots on goal, 27-25.
Tucker Angelopoulos collected the shutout between the pipes for the Blue Bombers, fending off all 27 shots faced. Robby Knowles accumulated 24 saves in the losing effort.
The Hornets had already clinched a first-round bye for next week’s playoffs, finishing with 14 points. Lake Placid concluded its league schedule with 13 points.
The pairings for next week’s playoffs will be released Sunday night by Section VII coordinators.
“I thought this was a solid team effort and our seniors contributed, including Sean Shea, Brandon Matott, Cody Trudeau, Alex Maston and (Knowles),” Reidy said. “The playoffs are always an exciting time, and I don’t think this year is going to be any different. We’re looking forward to the playoffs.”

MALONE — Bailey Conklin’s game-winning goal at 7:07 of the third period helped Franklin Academy to a 2-1 win over Thousand Islands/Alexandria Bay in the play-in round of the Section X Division II tournament.
The Huskies (9-11-1) victory marked its first playoff win since 2006.
“We were able to put together a complete effort for 45 minutes,” Franklin Academy coach Chuck Dievendorf said. “Our players believed in our systems and we received a total team effort.”
Trevor Hughes helped the Islanders (6-13-2) get their first lead of the night just 1:34 into the contest with Jordan ZanBrocklin credited with the assist.
However, the lead was short lived.
Just 2:09 after Hughes’ marker, Trevor Henderson tied the contest up at 1-all with a goal assisted by Trevor Cooley.
The game stayed tied until Conklin buried the game-winner with 7:53 remaining in regulation.
Eighth-grader Joey Brown was credited with the win between the pipes, fending off 19 of 20 shots faced, while Cole James was tagged with the loss.
“(Brown) did a nice job making the saves when he had to,” Dievendorf said. “He gave us an opportunity to win throughout.”
The fourth-seeded Huskies travel to St. Lawrence Wednesday night for a semifinal matchup.
