Lions capture Alzheimer's Awareness tourney

ELIZABETHTOWN — Elizabethtown-Lewis was only able to score 17 points in the first half against Schroon Lake in the opening round of the Alzheimer’s Awareness tournament on Tuesday.

Wednesday, though, the Lions scored 19 — in the first quarter.

Lily Whalen led a balanced Elizabethtown-Lewis scoring attack with 12 points and eight rebounds in its 45-22 victory over Ticonderoga in the championship game.

Shonna Brooks added nine points and eight rebounds for the Lions. Kearsten Ashline chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds, while Jasmine Barnes pulled down seven rebounds.

Kylee Cassavaugh had three assists and played lock-down defense on the Sentinels’ Andrea Rich. Rich was held to 11 points after exploding for 25 against Westport the day before.

The Lions and their coaching staff would also like to thank John Konowitz for all of his work throughout the tournament.

CONSOLATION

Westport 34, Schroon Lake 28

Felicia Kurth scored 11 points and Brendee Russell added 10 to lead the Eagles to their win in what was a close game throughout.

Westport trailed 12-11 at the half before outscoring Schroon Lake, 10-5, in the third to take a 21-17 advantage.

Gabe Harvey tossed in 10 points and Lindsay Reynolds added seven for the Wildcats.

WESTPORT — The Eagles had a difficult season last year, finishing without a single win.

Westport got the first victory of this season out of the way very early as it knocked off the Beavers Wednesday.

Ryan Davis led the charge with 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Eagles. Robert King chipped in with eight points, while Anderson Gay connected on five.

Colton Venner was strong for Keene, scoring 16 of the team’s 21 points in a losing effort.
