Champlain Valley Athletic Conference bowling will take on a new look this season.

In the old format, handicap scores were used during the regular season and scratch scores in the Section VII Championships.

The new format will have scratch scores used in both regular season and sectional play, giving the obvious advantage to teams with the better average bowlers.

The Beekmantown boys return as both league and sectional champions, while the Northeastern Clinton girls won the CVAC title and the Beekmantown girls the sectional crown a year ago.

Beekmantown

Boys

The Eagles, after cleaning up on league and sectional honors a season ago, are poised for another title run.

Experience won’t be a problem as Beekmantown brings back nine starters off last year’s squad, including Matt Corrow, Austin Delisle, Ryan Douglas, Matt Dwyer, Ryan Munson, Andrew Roberts, James St. Denis, Dennon Walantus and Cody Watts. Returner Andrew Baker is a projected starter.

Girls

The Eagles lost out to Northeastern Clinton in the CVAC standings before winning the sectional crown.

Beekmantown returns three of its five starters in Taylor Lavalley, Paedyn Mattioli and Harley Wells. Alyza Agoney and Sabrina Manning are projected starters.

The Vikings lost most of their team from a year ago and have Megan Evans, Kayla Joy and Amanda Ida returning.

Moriah is hoping the newcomers will continue to improve and help pull off some wins this season.

The Cougars are returning a much improved A squad where spare shooting and first-shot consistency should be a strength. Key to NCCS’ success will be the improvement of the B team.

Most of the roster includes upperclassmen in seniors Kyle Sebert, Dylan Gooley, Josh Frenya and Morgan Wyatt, along with juniors Chris Kokes, Joey Robert, Mark Furman, Dylan Porter and James Lapierre.

Girls

The Cougars lost a good share of last year’s CVAC championship team to graduation.

NCCS is hoping for improvement from three returners —senior Devin Gosselin, sophomore Brianna Smith and Madison Dumas. Smith is the most experience of the Cougars with two years on the varsity. Sophomore Jaden Gosselin and freshman Abigail Bosley are projected starters.

The Indians, despite lacking depth, figure to be a title contender in this year’s race with nine returning starters, including all-stars in sophomores Jonathan Bowman and Kyle Mendofik. Classmate Keegan Kemp is another of the key bowlers.

The team is still a young one, with seniors Andrew Forget, Nate Tuller and Zachery Clark, sophomore Dylon Bridges, freshman Cole Cragle and eighth-grader Aaryn Clark rounding out the list of returning starters. Sophomore newcomer Dale St. Germaine is a projected starter.

The Indians have some depth, with eight returning bowlers on the roster, including two key performers in seniors Brittany Bushey and Morgan Reyell, who are multiple year competitors on the all-Section VII team.

Senior Chelsea Whitney, junior Karri Kusalonis and senior Reanne Shields-King round out the list of starters this season for Peru, which has been runner-up to Beekmantown the last couple of years in sectional play.

Other returning bowlers who will start include seniors Josh Levasseur and Matt Stevens, junior Christian Donavan, and sophomores Alex Varnell and Jacob Fox. Freshman Hunter Marbut is a varsity newcomer who is projected to start.

Girls

Depth is a concern on both the boys’ and girls’ teams, with many first-year bowlers on the rosters.

Emily Rohrig is the lone senior on the girls’ team, which will also include junior Brooke Marbut as a returning starter. However, the rest of the starting unit will include a returning junior in Gabby Parrotte, a returning eighth-grader in Jessica Shaffer and an eighth-grade varsity newcomer in Nikita Stiffler.

Ticonderoga doesn’t have much depth and returners include seniors Howard Fuller, Joe Johns and Jordan Millington, junior Shane Swinton, sophomores Cole Frasier, Konner Bruce and William Gonyo, and freshman Connor Lauzon. Seventh-grade newcomers Hayden Scuderi and Brandon Sawyer are projected starters.

Girls

Leading the way for the Sentinels will be senior Jordan McKee, a five-year starter and five-year participant at the states. She also holds the CVAC bowling record for girls.

Freshmen Cassidy McKee and Cheyanne Tuthill, along with junior Jeanette Coon, also return as starters. Junior Katie Lapeter is a returning varsity bowler who will round out the starting unit.
