Eagles look for for repeat in Sect. VII bowling

PLATTSBURGH — With scratch scores being used for the first time during the regular season, the Beekmantown boys’ and girls’ bowling teams combined for a sensational 217-7 record in winning Champlain Valley Athletic Conference championships.

The Beekmantown boys finished with a 155-5 record, while the Beekmantown girls were 62-2.

Both teams, with only scratch scores being used, will be heavy favorites to defend their Section VII titles today at North Bowl Lanes.

The Eagle boys’ best competition during the regular season came from Northeastern Clinton, which was second with a 124-36 record, and AuSable Valley, which took third with a 118-42 mark.

The Beekmantown girls, meanwhile, withstood the challenge of Ticonderoga. The Sentinels finished second with a solid 54-10 record, with eight of the losses being to the Eagles.

Peru, Plattsburgh High, Willsboro, Saranac and Moriah round out the list of nine teams competing today.

The first of two shifts of three games each will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the second shift following a break for lunch.

The boys and girls all-star teams, which will compete at the state meet along with today’s winning boys and girls teams, will be announced once the bowling is complete.

There is a chance the bowling could be moved back to a later time if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
