PLATTSBURGH — Although it’s still very early in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys’ hockey season, Beekmantown got a needed win with a 6-3 victory over Lake Placid at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center on Thursday night.
The Eagles, who held a 4-1 lead at one time, improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the Blue Bombers fell to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the CVAC.
Lake Placid, however, jumped in front just 44 seconds into the game on Ryan Damp’s goal.
But Brenden Carnright tied it for Beekmantown at 3:34 with a power-play goal, and Brandon Buksa put the Eagles ahead to stay at 10:04.
The Eagles then made it 4-1 in the second, with Kyle Constanty scoring at 7:48 and then Nathan Foster, who had two earlier assists, a power-play goal at 11:10.
“We did a great job responding after their goal,” Beekmantown coach Justin Frechette said. “We were able to get our cycle going, and I felt we controlled play in the first and second periods, even though we could have scored more goals.
“But I was happy with the effort — we were explosive.”
The Blue Bombers, however, didn’t go quietly.
Lake Placid fought back in the third and cut its deficit to a goal when Keegan Barney tallied at 5:01 and Connor Preston shortly after, at 6:21.
The Eagles held on, and Kyle Bisonette sealed it with an empty-net goal with 49 seconds left in regulation.
Lake Placid put its goaltender back in net, and Austin Bradish finished off the scoring for the Eagles at the 14:34 mark.
“Give Lake Placid credit,” Frechette said. “They rallied back in the third period and made it interesting.
“But once again, I was happy with our response.”
The Eagles finished with a 33-21 advantage in shots on goal. Dustin Plumadore made 18 saves in the Beekmantown nets, and Tucker Angelopoulos had 27 stops for the Blue Bombers.
Lake Placid was missing its leading scorer, Eddie Kane, who was out with an injury.
Beekmantown jumps out of conference play for a nonleague home game at 2 p.m. Saturday against Guilderland.
