Red Storm place four golfers on CVAC All-Star Team

PLATTSBURGH — The Saranac Lake golf team enjoyed a successful 2013 season, winning both the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference and Section VII championships.

The Red Storm capped off their outstanding season by having four golfers named to the 10-member CVAC All-Star Team. They include Dustin Fischer, Ethan Sawyer, Teddy Yanchitis and Austin Ecret.

Fischer, a junior, had a 38.5 stroke average per nine holes this season and finished the campaign with an 8-1-1 record.

The two-time state qualifier has a sparkling 24-2-2 match record for his career.

Sawyer, a sophomore, has only been beaten once in his career thus far, sporting a 19-1 record. He compiled a 9-1 record this year and finished the season with an average of 40.1.

Yanchitis, a senior playing his first varsity matches this season, finished his year with a 7-3 record and a 44.9 match average. Meanwhile, Ecret, a junior, went 7-2-1 against CVAC opponents and compiled a 45.1 average.

The CVAC All-Stars are highlighted by Northeastern Clinton’s Nolan Reid.

The senior was the Section VII medalist in 2013, won the 2012 Craig Chisum Tournament at the Malone Golf Club and was a three-time state qualifier in his career. Reid’s stroke average was 40.0 this year, and he finished with a 5-3-2 record playing against the top golfers from opposing teams.

Rounding out the list of All-Stars are Lake Placid’s Keifer Casler, Saranac’s Austin LaDieu, Peru’s Jordan Guay, Plattsburgh High’s Nick Dodd and Peru’s Gavin Plimpton.

Casler, a sophomore, ended up with a 6-2-1 record against CVAC opponents this season and is 12-12-2 for his varsity career. His stroke average was 41.8 this season.

LaDieu, who finished with season with a 42.8 average, became the first Saranac golfer in 20 years to go to the state tournament.

Guay, just a freshman and one of the promising league stars for the future, compiled an 8-2 mark against CVAC foes.

Dodd performed well at the sectional tournament. He went 7-3 this season as a senior and finished with a 43.3 average.

Plimpton, just an eighth-grader with a bright future, went unbeaten in the CVAC with a 9-0 record. His average was a 44.0.
