Shaker's Jensen captures state golf title; Fischer leads Sect. VII

ITHACA — Shaker High School’s Davis Jensen captured the state golf title by three shots with a five over par at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University over the weekend.

Jensen finished with a 147 over two days and held off New Hartford’s Alec Bard, who shot a 150.

Matt van Niekerk from Harley Allendale-Columbia and Sayville’s Kyle Burke rounded out the top three with a two-round 151. Jensen had the low round of the day Sunday with a 73.

Saranac Lake’s Dustin Fischer led the way for Section VII, finishing with an 81-81-162, which was good for a tie of 36th place.

Northeastern Clinton’s Nolan Reid shot a 79 on day one, but fell back a bit with a 93 on day for a two-day total of 172, which put him tied for 71st. Ethan Sawyer from Saranac Lake shot a 94-80-174, which secured him 76th place.

Peru’s Jordan Guay (91-89-180) finished 85th, Lake Placid’s Kiefer Casled (92-92-184) was tied for 87th, and Elizabethtown-Lewis’ Connor Marvin (95-93-188) finished tied for 91st.

Rounding out Section VII was Plattsburgh’s Nick Dodd (84-107-191), Saranac’s Austin LaDieu (101-92-193) and Saranac Lake’s Teddy Yanchitas (100-98-198), finishing 93rd, 95th and tied for 96th, respectively.

Brushton-Moira’s Devin Delisle had a strong tournament to lead the way for Section X. Delisle finished with an 80-78-158, which put him tied for 15th overall.

Franklin Academy’s Evan Hanna had a 78-98-176 to put him tied for 77th, and Tupper Lake’s Riley Amell finished tied for 87th with a 96-88-184.
