Bombers blank Red Storm in Winter Carnival tourney

LAKE PLACID — The No. 7 Lake Placid boys’ hockey team wasn’t going to let a hot goaltender stand in its way of an elusive victory at its prestigious Winter Carnival Tournament.

Saranac Lake’s Blake Darrah turned away 39 shots in all, but the Blue Bombers were able to squeak out a 2-0 win in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play Friday.

“We played a solid first period, producing a lot of chances, but their goalie stood tall,” Lake Placid coach Keith Clark said. “It was an important win in the league and in our Winter Carnival Tournament.”

Connor Preston and Chris Williams each recorded goals for the Blue Bombers at 7:16 and 3:40 of the first and third period, respectively.

Kamm Cassidy accumulated 11 saves between the pipes in Lake Placid’s shutout victory.

The Blue Bombers will play host to Middlebury in the tournament’s championship game today, while Saranac Lake plays Shaker-Colonie in the consolation round.
