Eagles knock off previously unbeaten Sentinels
CLINTONVILLE — The Beekmantown Eagles dashed the Ticonderoga Sentinels’ hopes for an undefeated season, Tuesday, and at the same time, set themselves up for the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference championship meet in cross country.
Beekmantown pulled out a 27-28 victory to deny the Sentinels a shot at a perfect season; however, the Ticonderoga boys still won the regular-season crown with a 17-1 record. Beekmantown finished at 15-3 and with good momentum heading into Saturday’s CVAC showdown in Cadyville. Ticonderoga, Beekmantown and Saranac figure to wage a tough fight for the title.
Colin Quackenbush led the Eagles with a first-place finish in 18:09 over the AuSable Valley course Tuesday. Ticonderoga’s Javeed Nazir was second in 18:18 with Jonathan Graziane (18:27) and Jordan West (18:29) claiming the next two spots for Beekmantown. Tyler Belden of Ticonderoga rounded out the top five in 19:01.
“They (Beekmantown) ran well and their first through third runners ran very well,” said Ticonderoga Coach Jay Wells.
Both teams defeated AuSable Valley, which was led by sophomore Brandon Ruocco, who placed seventh in 19:33.
The Beekmantown girls came away with a sweep as Ticonderoga and AuSable Valley entered incomplete teams.
Ticonderoga’s Naomi Forkas finished first in 23:58, followed by Beekmantown’s Rachel Kashorek, 25:39, and AuSable Valley’s Rachel Ford, 26:20.

Saranac teams sweep
CADYVILLE — The Saranac boys and girls teams, both primed for a strong run at conference honors Saturday, closed out the regular season with sweeps of Northeastern Clinton and Lake Placid.
The Lake Placid boys gained a split while the NCCS girls went 1-1 on the day.
Zach LePage, 17:31, and Josh Wade, 17:33, led a Saranac sweep of the first seven places in the boys’ race. Anthony Piche of NCCS came in eigthth in 19:04 while Corey Detwiler placed 10th for Lake Placid in 19:18.
Northeastern Clinton’s Samantha Smith, 19:56, just beat out Lake Placid’s Nina Armstrong, 19:57, to win the girls’ race with Saranac’s Lexi Blockson, third, in 20:42.
