CLINTONVILLE — Two second-half goals propelled the AuSable Valley girls’ soccer team to a 2-0 defeat of Lake Placid in a nonleague contest Monday.
Blue Bombers goalkeeper Laura Stanton kept the Patriots off the scoreboard for the first 40 minutes and 31 seconds of play.
AuSable Valley’s Rachel Knapp, however, opened the game’s scoring with a goal 31 seconds into the second half. Mady Rondeau was credited with the assist on the play.
Meghan Strong extended the Patriots’ lead to two goals at 13:31 on a header off a corner kick from Knapp.
Bryce Douglass made four saves in net to record the shutout. Stanton totaled 10 in the two-goal loss.
“Lake Placid did a great job in the first half keeping AuSable off the scoreboard,” AuSable Valley coach Bruce Bourgeois said. “Strong had a beautiful header goal off a nice corner. Logan Snow and Taylor Saltus did a good job keeping the ball on Lake Placid’s side.”
The Patriots led shots in the match, 15-8.
