AuSable Valley, Moriah win nonleague matchups

CLINTONVILLE — For the AuSable Valley girls’ soccer team, one goal was all it took.

After no first-half scoring, Rachel Knapp took a one-time pass from Meghan Strong and put it into the back of the net, helping the Patriots defeat Keene in a Northern Soccer League nonleague contest Tuesday, 1-0.

Bruce Bourgeois, whose team surrendered just four shots on net throughout the duration of the contest, was pleased with his team’s performance defensively.

“Logan Snow, Priscilla Coats and Tiffany Evens did a great job on defense, stopping many Keene drives at midfield,” Bourgeois said.

Bryce Douglass and Kendra Niemann combined for a shutout performance for AuSable Valley, accumulating three saves.

Goalkeeper Tucker Geiger kept the Beavers in the match until the midway point of the second half, but was tagged with the loss between the pipes.

“Tucker Geiger had a great night in goal, making several key saves to keep Keene in the game,” Bourgeois said.
