Leonard leads Eagles over Hornets on Senior Night

BEEKMANTOWN — Alyssa Leonard’s Senior Night couldn’t have gone any smoother Monday.

Leonard swept all four individual events to win the all-around in Beekmantown’s 157.75-140.05 defeat of Plattsburgh High in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference gymnastics.

“She had an outstanding meet,” Eagles coach Sheree Trudeau said. “She was able to help lead the team to another victory, while keeping everyone’s spirits high despite the loss of one of our key gymnasts.”

Leonard won the vault event, totaling 8.50 points. Gavin Fritz (8.15) and Josh Boise (8.05) of the Hornets finished second and third, respectively.

Leonard’s strong showing continued in the bars event, finishing with 1.10 more points than teammate Erica Leonard.

Grabbing individual victories in the beam (9.20) and floor events (9.20), Alyssa Leonard went on to win the overall at 35.70 points.

Beekmantown’s Lydia Gricoski (32.60), Erica Leonard (31.90) and Alison Trudo (30.75) finished second through fourth, respectively. Plattsburgh High’s Hannah Kaltenbach and Julia Karkoski tied for fifth with 29.50 points each. Victoria Mitchell of the Eagles concluded the top-six finishers in the all-around with 26.80 points.

“All the girls are pushing extra hard to make up for the fact that Kailey Quackenbush got injured in Friday’s meet against Peru,” Trudeau said. “She fell in our first event and was unable to finish the meet. The team is putting their best effort out there every time they compete, and they’re eager for the return of Kailey. Lydia Gricoski, Erica Leonard and Alison Trudo have all contributed greatly to the team’s success.”
