Eagles take regular season series from Indians

PERU — Alyssa Leonard won three individual events, including the all-around in Beekmantown’s narrow 156.95-155.65 defeat of Peru in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference gymnastics Monday.

“It was a very close meet,” Indians coach Krista Brown said. “Both teams performed very well (Monday). The difference came down to the balance beam. We made some mistakes and had some falls on the beam. Beekmantown managed to stay up on the beam and that made the difference.”

Eagles’ gymnast Erica Leonard won the beam event with a score of 8.45 points and took second in the all-around.

Other contributors in Beekmantown’s win were Lydia Gricoski (vault, bars and floor) and Alison Trudo (vault and beam).

The top finishers from Peru included Alexandra Brown (second in vault, bars, beam, floor and all-around), Alaina Bazzano (beam and floor), Molly Lawliss (vault and bars) and Lexi Trombley (bars).

The two teams will meet one more time this season in sectionals at Plattsburgh High Oct. 19.
