Peru gymnasts hold off PHS

PLATTSBURGH — Alaina Bazzano won two individual events, while Alexandra Brown picked up the all-around in Peru’s 158.85-148.75 defeat of Plattsburgh High in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference gymnastics Monday.

Bazzano scored the win on the beam with 8.6 points before registering 8.8 points in the floor event.

Kira Fisher helped the Indians in their 10.1-point victory, grabbing the elusive win on the bars.

Gavin Fritz, a freshman, helped the Hornets to their lone individual win in the vault event with 8.2 points. Fritz tied with Peru’s Justin Dick.

Brown accumulated 32.5 points, registering the all-around victory. Plattsburgh High’s Hannah Kaltenbach finished in the runner-up spot with 32.3 points, while Fisher was on the podium at 31 points.

“Plattsburgh posted its highest team score of the season, but it wasn’t enough to top Peru’s talent and depth,” Hornets coach Janice Trudeau said.
