B'town, AuSable, NAC win in volleyball

PLATTSBURGH — Unbeaten Beekmantown had no equal in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference volleyball this season.

And the Eagles finished it off Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Peru for the Section VII Class B championship at Clinton Community College.

Emily Anderson led the way with 15 points, including nine aces, while Jordynne Ales added 12 points, with three aces, as Beekmantown (17-0) won by games scores of 25-11, 25-9, 25-16.

Shannon Ryan finished with four blocks and nine kills for the Eagles, while Michaela Lafountain added a team-high 16 assists. Lafountain and Mikaela Frechette chipped in with four kills apiece. Kendra Lafountain contributed a team-high seven digs and Frechette was next with six.

Brittany Kelso paced the Indians (6-11) with six points, four aces and two kills. Brooke Wyand added three kills, while Lea Perry had a team-high six assists.

Beekmantown will face Section Two’s Johnstown at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at AuSa ble Valley in the sub-regionals. The winner will advance to the sub-regional final Saturday at SUNY Canton.

AuSable wins Class C

PLATTSBURGH — The AuSable Valley Patriots came up aces in their Class C showdown with Plattsburgh High.

The Patriots served 22 aces to the Hornets’ 7 on their way to a 3-1 victory in the sectional final. AuSable Valley won the first two sets, but Plattsburgh High did no go quietly. The Hornets won the third set, 25-20, and extended the fourth before bowing 25-23.

Miranda Sheffer and Miranda O’Neill both registered seven aces while Noelle Miller notched five for AuSable Valley (16-2). O’Neill, Sheffer and Alexandra Lincoln each accounted for 12 service points.

Miller was strong at the net with 14 kills and one block while Sheffer and O’Neill each had eight kills while Shelby Bourgeois and Mirissa O’Neill had seven apiece.

Playmaker Belle O’Toole, the lone senior on the AuSable Valley team, was credited with 26 assists while Lincoln dug out 18 balls.

Taylor Witkiewicz and Kianna Dragoon had stellar all-around games for PHS. The two combined for 26 points and five aces while picking up six kills. Kadijah Brown recorded nine kills and Dragoon, 16 assists.

Deanna LaBarge finished with six kills, four blocks and 15 digs. Kayla Boise had 16 digs.

AuSable Valley will take on Voorheesville of Section II Tuesday in sub-regional play at 4:30 p.m. at Plattsburgh High.

NAC takes D title

PLATTSBURGH — The Northern Adirondack Bobcats got stronger as the match went on Saturday in sweeping to a 3-0 victory over the Lake Placid Blue Bombers for the Class D crown. NAC (10-7) won 25-23, 25-18, 25-16.

Senior Hannah Charland led NAC with 23 points, six aces, five digs and eight kills. Zoey Varin recorded seven kills and two blocks while Shonni Velasquez posted five points, two aces, five digs, four kills and one block. Emma Trombley was credited with 11 assists.

Lindsey Howe led Lake Placid (1-15) with eight points, three aces and four kills. Serina Hayes finished with five points, three aces, six kills and four assists and Taylor Maiorca with 10 digs.

NAC will face Hartford of Section II at 4 p.m. Saturday at AuSable Valley in the sub-regionals.
