PHS girls keep title hopes alive

SARANAC — Olivia Carlsson rallied to win her No. 3 singles match in three sets Monday, giving the Plattsburgh High School girls a 3-2 victory over host Saranac in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference tennis.

Marle Curle won at No. 1 singles for the Hornets (7-1) while Ashley Marlow and Hannah Leclair prevailed in No. 3 doubles.

Kayla Napper won a three-setter at No. 2 singles for Saranac (3-4) while Amie Eggleston and Kristen Napper took a close match at No. 1 doubles.

The Saranac boys (4-2) won two of three singles matches and swept the doubles. Shawn Bissonette dominated at No. 1 singles for the Chiefs with Dylan Christopherson also strong at No. 2. Aaron Cross and Ryan Wood needed three sets to win at No. 1 doubles with Elijah Boliver and Matt Bouyea winning at No. 2.

Plattsburgh High (4-3) garnered its only point at No. 3 singles where Anthony Girard outlasted Mark Lapointe. Lapointe won the first set and Girard took the second in a tiebreaker. Girard was leading the third 6-5 when Lapointe was forced to retire.

ELLENBURG CENTER — Michael Morrison and Haley Thompson rallied from a first-set loss to win their No. 3 doubles match and give the visiting Blue Bombers (3-4) the victory in boys’ tennis.

Justin Kellett and Scott Kellett won in singles for NAC (2-5), but Keegan Barney broke through at No. 2 for Lake Placid. The Blue Bombers also won at No. 1 doubles with David Knapik and Nik Kobe.

The O’Leary sisters once again led the Lake Placid girls (7-1) with a straight-set sweep in singles. The Blue Bombers needed three sets to win both doubles matches.

PLATTSBURGH — Seton Catholic, with the benefit of three forfeits in girls’ play, swept past AuSable Valley.

Danh Pham, at No. 1 singles, needed three sets to win his match while Lauren Richter and Alyse Clark also played three sets to win at No. 1 doubles for Seton Catholic.

B’town 3, NCCS 2

BEEKMANTOWN — The Eagles (4-3) swept in singles to turn back the Cougars in girls’ tennis. Beekmantown does not have a boys’ team.

Olivia Wyand, Anna Stitt and Michaela LaFountain did not lose a set in giving the Eagles three points in singles.

Northeastern Clinton (4-4) took the doubles with straight-set victories from Aryana Kellison and Andrea Mossey at No. 1 and Morgan Rabideau and Sarah Babbie at No. 2.
