Peru, Saranac capture wrestling wins

PERU — Peru got on an early roll and won 10 matches in a row Wednesday night to defeat rival Beekmantown, 51-22, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference wrestling.

The Indians (11-1, 2-0) started their run at 106 pounds and didn’t lose after that until the 182-pound match.

Brandon Goddeau (113), Ethan Feazelle (120), Kyler Agoney (126), Tanner Phillips (138), Troy Seymour (170) and Luke McKee (220) all recorded pins for Peru.

Winning by decision for the Indians were Colin Hogan (106), Nick Forget (132), James Mason (145), Noah Phillips (152) and Caleb Feazelle (160).

One of the best matches of the evening was Noah Phillips’ 2-0 decision over the Eagles’ Zachary Myers.

“We had 10 matches this past weekend and were a little sharper tonight — a lot of the matches were close,” said Peru co-head coach Mike Hogan.

“Tanner Phillips and Caleb Feazelle have shown a lot of improvement for us. They did a lot in the off season. Brandon Goddeau had a tough weekend, but had a big win for us tonight.

“It was a good team win.”

Gage Bourdeau (182), Brandon Defayette (195) and Cody Watts (285) all recorded pins for Beekmantown, while Trent Cook (99) was a winner by decision.

Saranac’s Richard Armstrong defeated the Patriots’ Dylan Baker, 2-0 in overtime, at 120 pounds in the best match of the evening.

Austin LaTulip (132) and Colby Staley (170) also won by decision for Saranac, which picked up four wins by forfeit.

Keith Christiansen (182) and Keith Rivers (285) accounted for the AuSable Valley points with pins.
