BEEKMANTOWN — Saranac won five matches in a row from 120 pounds to 145 Wednesday night and held off Beekmantown, 39-36, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference wrestling.
The Eagles won five of the first seven matches of the evening before the Chiefs went on a roll to erase a 29-9 deficit and grab a 33-29 lead.
Richard Armstrong won by fall at 120, Rafael Rivera with a pin at 126, Austin LaTulip a decision at 132, Codie Gillette a pin at 138 and Will Marcil a decision at 145.
Zachary Myers got three points for Beekmantown with a decision at 152, but Saranac clinched the win when Michael Charland won by forfeit at 160.
The Eagles’ Dylan Peryea won a major decision at 170 in the final match of the evening, but Beekmantown fell three points short.
Earlier wins for the Chiefs, who are off to a good start in league play with a 3-0 record, came when Nate Wood won by fall at 195 and John Devins by decision at 99.
The 182-pound match was the first of the evening and Gage Bourdeau recorded a pin for the Eagles.
Brandon Defayette with a technical fall at 220, Cody Watts a forfeit at 285, Michael Cartee with a pin at 106 and Anthony Cartee with a win by fall at 113 also had victories for Beekmantown.
“We got down early, but Richard Armstrong and Rafael Rivera won key matches to get us going,” said Saranac coach Heath Smith. “It was a barn burner.
“Beekmantown has a good team and our younger wrestlers were able to come through for us. It was a nice win for us.”
Saranac has already won road matches at Northern Adirondack and Beekmantown.
