Chiefs defeat Patriots on mat

CLINTONVILLE — Saranac prepped for tonight’s unbeaten showdown with Peru with a 61-21 victory over AuSable Valley in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference wrestling on Thursday night.

The Chiefs (8-7, 5-0) won 11 of the 15 matches, including the final five.

Colby Staley (170), Paul Herrera (220), Austin Latulip (132), Will Marcil (138), and James Black (152) recorded pins for Saranac. Michael Charland (160), with a 9-8 win over Kodie Simpson, and Codie Gillette (145) won by decision. The Chiefs also won four matches by forfeit.

Kenneth Rivers (285) won by fall for the Patriots and Dylan Baker (120), with a 4-3 victory over Richard Armstrong, by decision. AuSable Valley also picked up two forfeit wins.

Saranac and Peru both have 5-0 records in league matches and will square off tonight on the Chiefs’ mat.
